How to use the BBN Manual Search Options for the 2014 Edition of the Manual:
This is for the 2014 Manual NOT the 2024 manual.
Go to Navigator Pro for 2024 manual.
Please read.
It is often best to use the ‘find on page’ search function that is on your desktop, tablet or phone. Where to find this is listed below.
The BBN Manual page has a built in Search Box.
It does not work like Google.
To use this box successfully, think about what you are searching for before typing.
Be specific and watch your spelling. The search box doesn’t know how to spell, it will only look for what you type in. If you spell the word wrong the search box will not find the correct word for you.
Use one word identifiers. For instance, if you have knee pain, don’t look for knee pain as it will only search for those two words knee + pain together. The Search box will only look for two words that are adjacent to one another. It will not look for ‘knee elim pain’. Best to type in knee and arrow through the pages where the word Knee appears.
The Search box will tell you how many matches there are to the word you typed in. Use the arrow up/down to scan through the matches to find what you need.
If you want to search a specific Category, search for the page number for that Category. For example, if you want to go directly to the Enzyme Function Category on page 69 type in Pg 69 and it will bring you to that Category. Don’t type in PAGE 69. Use only the format Pg 69. Always use the abbreviation for page which is Pg then space and then Pg number..
Every computer including your Phone has a Search function. Some folks may find it easier to use their computer’s browser search or ‘find’ function.
Where exactly your Browser’s search/find box opens on the screen varies, depending on which browser you use:
Firefox: In far right upper corner, left click on top of the three horizontal bars. A drop down menu will appear. left click on ‘find in this page’. The Search box will appear bottom left corner of the screen. You can type in the word you want to find and use the arrow buttons to go forward or backward in the document. You can click on the button that says "highlight all" and that puts a yellow background on all instances of that text anywhere in the document.
Safari: Upper right corner of the screen. If you type a word on this page, you can see how many matches there are, and you can also use forward and back buttons. You can use the "Enter" ("return" on Mac) key to go forward to the next search as well.
Microsoft Edge: Left click on the three dots in the upper right hand corner of your screen. Left click on Find on Page. The search box will appear in the upper right corner.
Chrome: Left click on three dots in upper right corner of screen. Left click on Find. The search box will appear in the upper right corner of the screen. You can see how many instances of that word there are.
iPhone At the bottom of the screen tap the box with the up arrow. Scroll to Find on Page. Tap on Find on Page and a search box and keyboard will appear.
Android Phone: Select menu (three dots) in top right of screen, then select "Find on page" in the menu.
The Search features allows you to scan a long document quickly.
If you do not see your browser listed above, please use google to find how to search on your particular browser.
