Nicotine

Y’all know this is not medical advise, right? Just checking. Because what I’m about to share is like wow! It’s one of those ‘whodathunkit’ kinda things.

Now, I was a smoker for 15 years starting at age 15. Quitting was one of the hardest things I went through. Not so much the cravings but what it did to me physically. I’m not exaggerating when I say that my digestive system pretty much gave me the middle finger and stopped working. It took several months to get things moving again. I don’t know what caused my digestive system withdrawal. I thought maybe it was nicotine.

So now, 30 years later, I’m learning new stuff about nicotine!

Nicotine is actually a precursor to Vitamin B3 so it’s not the scary substance we’re told. It has been used successfully in Ulcerative Colitis. And in Dr Klinghardt’s practice, he’s been using it on hyperactive Autistic kids for years as it helps calm them down.

Nicotine patches have also been studied for use in mild cognitive impairment and may even delay the onset of dementia and Alzheimer’s. That’s huge!

And if that wasn’t enough, nicotine also has shown anti-inflammatory effects in sepsis and acute respiratory distress syndrome. It may even be able protect against brain inflammation from SARS-CoV-2.

Now, there are downsides. The jury is out if the patches or lozenges are addictive. Maybe there are some BBNers that can share if they have had an experience with this.
Here’s a great article that dives deeper into the pros and the cons:

But the thing that I found interesting is that Dr Klinghardt has found nicotine very helpful in his patients with long covid brain fog. He has also found that it can restore taste and smell in those who have lost this from a covid infection. He said it typically takes about a week if you’ve lost your taste/smell for a year or more.

Since at this point, most of us are bound to get at least one bout of covid, it’s good to be armed with resources to help us heal.
Dosages vary greatly!! Dr Klinghardt uses 14mg patches but that may be too much. During an active infection or for post CV it may be ok. As always, check with your Integrative Doctor.
Neurohackers use just 1-2mg and then only use it when they need a cognitive boost. I think the later makes more sense and it’s easy to get that dose by way of nicotine lozenges.
Or even better…use the number! There’s also a couple more numbers for nicotine on pages 151 and 219.
Let me know what you think in the comments section below.
Thanks for reading!
Hugs,
~Christine
